Dress up in denim and support Jeans for Genes Day
03 August 2009
It’s that time where Gold Coast locals everywhere can help support children’s medial research by simply donning their favourite piece of denim and getting involved in Jeans for Genes Day.
“This is a great opportunity for the whole Gold Coast to get behind a very important cause which helps to perform essential and unique research,” says local MP Steven Ciobo.
Jeans for Genes Day helps to raise vital funds and 100 per cent of the money raised goes to the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), which investigates child birth defects, cancer and epilepsy.
“Our office will definitely be dressing up in our jeans in an effort to get involved,” Mr Ciobo said.
Around one in 20 children are affected by a genetic disease or abnormality and the CMRI continue their efforts to locate and solve these problems which are caused by irregularities in a child’s DNA.
“In order for all children to be given the chance to grow up and live a happy and long life, this research into genetic disorders is crucial and important,” Mr Ciobo said.
Jeans for Genes Day, which is now in its 16th year, has come up with more creative ideas which make it fun to participate and support the event.
“There are plenty of great initiatives to get involved with – whether it’s wearing jeans to work, making a donation, or purchasing Jeans for Genes merchandise.
“I also encourage businesses to get involved by becoming a Corporate Genie and ordering and selling Jeans for Genes merchandise in their office or perhaps making regular donations.”
Jeans for Genes Day will be held nationally on Friday August 7.
