A Gold Coast woman who has dedicated her life to helping others has been recognised for her generous volunteer work.
Barbara Healey was last night awarded Gold Coast Volunteer of the Year at local MP Steven Ciobo’s Gold Coast Community Awards.
Ms Healey has been a member of the Ashmore Rotary for many years, dedicating her time to many worthy causes locally and abroad.
Mr Ciobo said Ms Healey was a shining example of those who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of others.
“From cooking for those in need at crisis centres and hospitals to raising funds for those in the community who need it most, Ms Healey has gone above and beyond to make the Gold Coast a better place,” Mr Ciobo said
“Each year I’m humbled by the recipients and inspired by the contribution they make to our community.”
Ms Healey said she was honoured to be named the Volunteer of the Year.
“It’s a very humbling and unexpected honour to receive this award, especially since there are so many worthy recipients here tonight.”
Ms Healey was one of 50 award recipients honoured at the community awards.
Mr Ciobo said the awards were a great opportunity to recognise those selfless volunteers in our community.
“It is important our backyard heroes are recognised for their contribution to our city. It is my privilege to attend these awards to congratulate the recipients,” Mr Ciobo said.
“They are hardworking volunteers who devote many hours of their time to assist organisations around the Gold Coast, which is why it is so important for these community members to receive this recognition.”
