Health

  • Delivered two new medical schools at Griffith and Bond universities to deliver more doctors for our city
  • Funded an after-hours medical service so doctors can visit local patients in their home
  • Voted for a 40 per cent rebate on private health insurance to make it more affordable for the 58 per cent of local residents who have cover
  • Secured better mental health services on the Gold Coast

Education, Science and Training

  • Provided 2,263 additional Commonwealth funded university places at Griffith University
  • Delivered $3.5 million to build a state-of-the-art science teaching building at Griffith University
  • Injected $8.4 million to upgrade classrooms and facilities at Gold Coast schools under the Investing in our Schools programme
  • $18.9 million to build a dedicated Australian Technical College on the Gold Coast
  • $700 tutorial vouchers to help struggling Gold Coast students meet literacy and numeracy standards

Roads

  • Delivered 167 per cent funding increase to upgrade Queensland roads
  • Secured funding for $455 million for an upgrade of the M1 Motorway between Tugun and Nerang
  • Secured an additional $91.1 million for the Gold Coast City Council in direct funding  to upgrade local roads - this includes $5.9 million to fix 49 local black spots

Small Business and Tourism

  • Delivered $6.1 million in grants to help Gold Coast businesses commercialise their innovative products and services
  • Opened a new TradeStart Office at Bundall to help local businesses export overseas
  • Provided funding for a dedicated Small Business Assistance Officer to help local businesses grow

  • Assisting Gold Coast businesses generate inbound tourism by delivering $3.8 million in grants for quality programmes
  • $111,000 in assistance for Dracula's Haunted House to promote tourism in the heart of Surfers Paradise
  • Delivering record funding for tourism to ensure this vital Gold Coast industry keeps growing and producing jobs

Veterans' Affairs

  • $52,000 in funding for a new veterans' support centre at Nerang
  • $40,000 to construct the Rotary Kokoda Memorial Wall at Cascade Gardens
  • Built a memorial garden at Miami State Primary School that honours Australians who served in wars, conflicts and peace operations
  • More than $100,000 in funding for commemorative projects across the Gold Coast
  • Set up an after-hours free phone counselling hotline for Gold Coast veterans

Families and Community Services

  • $1.5 million to establish the Gold Coast's first Family Relationship Centre
  • Delivered hundreds of new child care places across all Gold Coast suburbs
  • Set up a Child Care Access hotline to make it easier for Gold Coast parents to find child care places in their area
  • Introduced a $5,000 Baby Bonus to help new parents with the costs of having a child
  • Increased Family Tax Benefit payments that provide a helping hand for Gold Coast families
  • $220,500 for Gold Coast family support group, Reconnect, to help at-risk local teenagers and unite broken families
  • $78,217 for 'Youthlinx' - a group that supports Gold Coast youth and provides family liaison workers to help local families get back on track

Communications, Information Technology and the Arts

  • Funding to improve TV blackspots and provide better television reception across the Gold Coast including Worongary
  • Faster, more affordable broadband across the Gold Coast to provide local residents and businesses with A-grade internet access
  • $188,196 in cultural arts grants to bring contemporary music artists to the Gold Coast.

Justice and Customs

  • $223,000 to help Gold Coast organisations, schools and sporting clubs fight crime under the National Community Crime Prevention programme
  • $150,000 for the Gold Coast City Council to establish a local youth centre to address anti-social behavour  
  • $5,000 for Benowa State High School to install security screens on classroom windows
  • Delivered security cameras for Broadbeach Junior AFL Club
  • Funded security roller doors to prevent theft at Nerang Bulls Rugby Club

Environment and Water Resources

  • Jointly funded a $9.45 million water project on the Gold Coast to fix leaking water pipes - this will save enough water to fill 5,000 Olympic swimming pools every year
  • Delivered $1.2 million in Community Water Grants to Gold Coast schools and community organisations to help them carry out water saving projects
  • $5,629 to help Main Beach Progress Association plant new trees at the coastal reserve at Narrowneck
  • Introduced a $1,000 rebate for households that switch to solar or heat pump hot water systems
  • Grants of up to $8,000 for households that install solar panels
  • $50,000 for every local school to install rainwater tanks and solar hot water systems

Workforce Participation

  • More than $5 million in funding for local work for the dole projects that enable 3,295 jobseekers to gain work skills and give something back to our community
  • 'Special Kids Assist' Work for the Dole project allowed 10 jobseekers to help teachers prepare learning activities for disabled kids
  • Securing the Gold Coast's chare of more than $800 million in state-wide funding through the Coalition's Skilling Australia's Workforce initiative.
